In the heart of Empordà (the name comes from old Ancient Greek settlement called Emporion,nowadays the archeological site of Empuries), is located Vallgornera Castle. The property has been owned by the same family from its origins.
Vallgornera Castle is a fortress dating from the XIII century, restored a few years ago. The restoration has tried to preserve the character of what was once, but adapting it to the needs of today. Elegantly decorated with original antic furniture, its cozy and comfortable suites will make your stay unforgettable. Its rooms will seduce you with its peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. Delightfully furnished, blending stone, wood and novel materials. Charm and harmony reign in every single corner of the site providing a spacious and relaxing stay for a life of ease and holidays.
The fortification offers two large rooms, decorated with style and personality. The property also offers two otheropen space rooms, airy and unfurnished at disposal to organize events and private parties.

The castle offers all sorts of facilities. In its large patio, there is a laundry and a guest bathroom, from which you can access all the rooms of the house, a large swimming pool and a garden, which you can enjoy sharing with the other possible 4 guests of the Castle Vallgornera Apartment.
The Castle can be renting in whole for 12 people maximum.

A place with genuine History:
In spring of 1285 Philipe III of France, at war with Pedro II of Aragon, the Great, entered Catalonia leading a large army to impose his son Charles as king of Aragon.
France, with the support of the Papacy did not hesitate to have Pedro II excommunicated and turned the war into a crusade. The decisive battle took place in Perelada.
“The most important historical moment in the life of Vallgornera Castle took place at the time of the war between France and Catalonia at the end of the thirteenth century.” RAMÓN MUNTANER
Ramón Muntaner (Born in Perelada in 1265, author of the 'Chronicle' compendium of the history of the Crown of Aragon from 1208-1328) states that the French troops, in order to occupy the town, were placed in a semi circle from '..... . From Gariguela to Garigua, from Garigua to Valguarnera and from Valguarnera to Pujamilot .... '
Muntaner also explains that the Almogávares, serving the Catalan king, burned the town so that it would not fall into enemy hands. The French fled to Girona and surrounded the city. Weeks later the French army, defeated and decimated by the plague, passed through Peralada on its way back to France. Philip III died there of the plague ... Popular tradition and the chronicler agree that the French king died in the territory of Vallgornera.
Pedro II of Aragón ruled as King of Aragon, Count of Barcelona and Lord of Montpellier.
