A place with genuine History:

In spring of 1285 Philipe III of France, at war with Pedro II of Aragon, the Great, entered Catalonia leading a large army to impose his son Charles as king of Aragon.

France, with the support of the Papacy did not hesitate to have Pedro II excommunicated and turned the war into a crusade.  The decisive battle took place in Perelada.

“The most important historical moment in the life of Vallgornera Castle took place at the time of the war between France and Catalonia at the end of the thirteenth century.” RAMÓN MUNTANER

Ramón Muntaner (Born in Perelada in 1265, author of the 'Chronicle' compendium of the history of the Crown of Aragon from 1208-1328) states that the French troops, in order to occupy the town, were placed in a semi circle from '..... . From Gariguela to Garigua, from Garigua to Valguarnera and from Valguarnera to Pujamilot .... '

Muntaner also explains that the Almogávares, serving the Catalan king, burned the town so that it would not fall into enemy hands. The French fled to Girona and surrounded the city. Weeks later the French army, defeated and decimated by the plague, passed through Peralada on its way back to France. Philip III died there of the plague ... Popular tradition and the chronicler agree that the French king died in the territory of Vallgornera.

Pedro II of Aragón ruled as King of Aragon, Count of Barcelona and Lord of Montpellier.

Our days at this incredible house were a dream come true. The location is gorgeous, the house itself is beautifully decorated and has the old charm of centuries of history. The pool is a bliss in the hot summer days. And the host was always attentive and very quick to reply to our qüestions. We will most certainly be back. Thanks so much

As we drove through the country side to the old fort we were thrilled to see that the photos are accurate. It is a beautiful and unexpected collection of stone buildings. The fully equipped kitchen and living room are separated from the bedrooms and there are 2 more halls, one with a chapel. Oil portraits of long dead residents and pastoral tapestries bedeck the walls and it has been designed and furnished with families and groups of friends in mind. It provided a fantastic backdrop to a family birthday gathering and party. Our experience was very memorable :D Fermín was very friendly and helpful when needed.

We stayed in this beautiful castle for 3 nights for my husbands birthday. It was such a great experience and would highly recommend it. We wanted a chilled weekend with BBQ and pool which it offered to perfection. The decor is really cool and everyone was very impressed with the greeting as well as the amenities of the castle. We have decided to turn staying at the Vallgornera castle into a yearly tradition. Can't wait until the next time!

Amazing place for a big family/group of friends. Elegantly furnished and very well equiped, specially the kitchen. Lighting at night makes a very special atmosphere. Fermin and Salvador were always helpful and responsive remotely. Our recomendations for improvement are just to reinforce wifi and provide extraheating for the rooms in the tower. Yet, 9.5 over 10. Congratulations!
